Sharon has been in psychotherapeutic practice since 1997 and has provided psychological counselling at the clinic since 2006 offering individuals, couples or groups the opportunity to achieve more positive and productive lifestyles. She works from a relational model of counselling psychology which places an emphasis on developing strong therapeutic relationships to empower client change and growth. Sharon integrates the core Humanistic principles of genuiness, empathy and acceptance with Psychodynamic processes of analysis, interpretation and interpersonal awareness-raising alongside elements of CBT, Solution Focused, Gestalt and Family Systems Therapy. Her overall approach is holistic and she has particular interests in the importance of attachment theory, mindfulness meditation and the use of the body in the therapeutic encounter.
Sharon has a wealth of experience to draw on having worked in a variety of settings with different client groups including in a residential rehabilitation unit for adults with alcohol and drug dependence, in NHS adult mental health and learning disability teams and in further education. She has worked for many years with criminal justice agencies and in psycho-legal practice providing psychological assessments, group and individual therapeutic interventions and supervision and is also a Chartered Forensic Psychologist.
