The body functions as a whole and holistic medicine respects the inter-connectedness of our physiology or our ‘make-up’. Every imbalance or state of disease (dis-ease) within the body may manifest as symptoms either emotionally, mentally or physically. Emotional stress (for example) can cause physical symptoms and physical symptoms (ie. Pain) may also be a cause of emotional stress. Practitioners at the Arcturus Clinic work with clients looking at the ‘whole picture’ of their health often taking into account where appropriate personal circumstances, as well as their physical and emotional wellbeing. For example eczema may be best treated by psychotherapy as it may only manifest when the person is under a type of stress and the stress may be alleviated by an understanding of how to change that persons approach to their individual situation. This is not always necessary as sometimes a person will come for treatment following a specific incident; for example lifting an object awkwardly that has resulted in a specific injury. But most of the time clients present with a range of symptoms that over time have been layered within their body’s memory and it is more often the case then that it is the ‘straw that breaks the camels back’ that leads an individual to seek help. Subsequently in essence, all practitioners have the capacity to treat all people and in many cases the treatment is not aimed at a specific condition but more the picture that the individual presents. There are in a very few cases specific treatments are contra-indicated for specific conditions but in these cases are discussed individually and alternative treatments can be suggested. Just as a physical hands-on treatment such as massage encourages relaxation (and the body’s parasympathetic response) the hands on approach may well help a person feel differently and be able to cope with mental and emotional stresses differently. It is also true that there are specific conditions that respond particularly well to specific treatments/therapies. For this information please consult the specific therapies available for information on the practitioner specialties. |
