Tariq Edwards MTI, ITM
Tariq graduated from the Bristol College of Massage and Bodywork and began working professionally in 2004. His style of massage is a fusion of elements from a number of different traditions. It combines the power of deep tissue massage, the gentleness of shiatsu and the peaceful, un-hurried presence of meditation. Each treatment is specifically tailored to meet the individual needs of each client. Clients often report relief from stress, relief from long term aches and pains and a sense of deep, embodied stillness. To book an appointment please call 07923 542522
Ever since he was a kid Tariq has been interested in oriental culture, reading everything about it that he could find. In 1991 Tariq was introduced to Shiatsu and studied for two years with the Bristol School of Shiatsu. He wasn’t interested in practising then, just curious about exploring a different view of the workings of the human body to the one he’d grown up with. He was much more interested in working with his own energy through the practice of Qi Gong than working with other peoples’ energy. However, he often treated friends and family. Tariq’s interest in Qi Gong lead him to Tai Chi which lead him to Kung Fu, which he loved, particularly the exotic, acrobatic styles! This in turn led him into circus performance and dancing: in particular, he learned and then began to teach Contact Improvisation. He continued to study bodywork, exploring Tantric massage and studying Thai massage in Thailand. He was also delving deeply into Taoist, Buddhist and Tantric meditation. All of these things taught him a lot about the workings of the human body, both his own and other peoples’. Tariq learned many different philosophies and systems regarding the body, how it works or how it sometimes doesn’t work and how to fix it. He was fascinated to explore how these different schools of thought agreed on some things and disagreed on others, and to compare these ideas with his own practical experience. In 2004 Tariq became interested in practising bodywork professionally. He was a qualified Thai masseur but didn’t want to be limited to that style so looked around for a course that would give him a general qualification. He then trained at the Bristol College of Massage and Bodywork. Throughout his training, and since qualifying and beginning to practise professionally, Tariq has worked hard to develop his own particular brand of massage. He incorporates all of the techniques from various traditions that he has found to be effective and has enjoyed receiving himself. He has drawn on the deep resources developed through thousands of hours of study and practise of his diverse disciplines. Most importantly, Tariq has been taught by his clients whose trust in him has inspired him to learn and adapt, and continually offer the best healing touch he can give. |
