Frequently asked questions about blood testing

Blood testing FAQ’s. 

Q-Do I need to fast for my blood test? 

A- Ideally have a blood test before 10am having drank warm water to keep hydrated. Best for  cholesterol, Blood sugar and Cortisol levels. 

Q-I am Pregnant will that affect my test results? 

A- Yes, Hormone variation. 

Q- I am taking Antibiotics will that affect my test results? 

A- No 

Q- I want to test my hormones, is there a best day to take blood? 

A- If you are female and still having periods, the blood test is best be taken on day 21 of your cycle. If  your day 21 falls on a Friday, please collect on Thursday (day 20). If you are no longer having periods, you can collect blood anytime. 

If you are male, you can take the blood test at any time. 

Q-I am taking the contraceptive pill/HRT how will that affect my results? 

A- Yes, Hormone Variation. (Do not stop taking them) 

Q-I am taking Thyroid medication and want to check my Thyroid? 

A- We suggest not taking your medication on the morning of the test. Please take it after your test. 

Q- I have a cold will that effect my results? 

A- Maybe- your white blood cell count could be higher than normal. 

A- What is the procedure if I want to have my blood tested? 

Q- Please book either a 15-minute blood draw (£40 Purely a blood draw appointment) or a consultation  30 min (£35) or a 45 min (£48) plus £20 fee for the blood draw within that appointment. Lab analysis  fees are £125 for Female comprehensive panel (47 biomarkers) and £120 for Male comprehensive panel  (45 biomarkers). Bookings with Blood tests must be before 4.30pm for postage purposes. The blood test results are usually back within a week then we recommend you have a 45-minute consultation to discuss your results. 

If you want a different type of blood test or a specific marker, please check with reception if this is  available. 

Q-Can I have a blood test during a Consultation or acupuncture appointment?  

A-Yes, please advise before session starts 

Q-I am housebound, but I would like a blood test and consultation is that possible? A- Yes, please call reception to organise a home visit from our blood company. 

Q-I would like a blood test and consultation, but I live in another area and unable to come to Totnes. A- Yes, please call reception

Q- I have been taking the recommended supplements and need some advice. A- Please book a follow up 30-minute consultation.
