Shiatsu
Shiatsu is a bodywork therapy that originated in Japan and incorporates elements of Traditional Chinese Medicine such as the meridian system.
Some of the ways Shiatsu can help clients include:
- improves energy flow in the body
- increased relaxation
- reduces stress and anxiety
- improved sleep, alleviates insomnia
- relieves physical tension, stiffness and pain
- regulates the digestive system
- helps to regulate hormones
Shiatsu uses touch as a way of supporting the body to come into a state of balance and natural realignment; techniques include palpation, pressing, finger pressure, tapping, stretching and light energetic touch.
Sessions take place on a futon on the floor. Blankets and cushions are used to support the body. The client is fully clothed when receiving a Shiatsu treatment so it’s advisable to wear loose, comfortable clothing.
Each session is tailored to the client’s particular needs. An initial consultation at the beginning of the session is an opportunity for the client to discuss their requirements and includes questions about lifestyle, fitness and health; diagnosis is also arrived at through the medium of touch during the treatment and diagnostic techniques such as the Five Elements framework used in Traditional Chinese Medicine.
