Mariana Cervantes

Psychodynamic child and adolescent psychotherapist MSc MBACP

I am a fully qualified, registered psychodynamic child and adolescent psychotherapist. I trained at Birkbeck College, University of London, and I am a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).

I have experience of working with people of all ages, from young children to adolescents and adults in the education sector, the voluntary sector and in association with the NHS. In these settings, I have also worked with parents on parental and parent-child difficulties.

I have worked with clients from diverse ethnic backgrounds, and I have undergone training on working with difference and diversity. I am bilingual in English and Spanish.

Psychodynamic practice centres on the importance of the unconscious. Therefore, the work is about helping the child or adolescent to give expression to their internal experiences and their feelings in their own way and at their individual pace. The therapy is non-directive, and the work is highly relational, which means that a central part of my role is to get in touch with the child’s experience and to acknowledge their feelings and experiences in a thoughtful, empathic and non-judgemental manner.

Therapies offered: I provide sessions and consultations for children, adolescents, young adults, parents, and parent & young child sessions.
